Why double glaze?

Our customers tell us that what we do and how we do it makes a difference to the enjoyment of their homes.

Cooler in Summer

During summer in New Zealand the temperature can rise to anywhere between 20-30ºC. This is sometimes a little too hot to handle and the inside of our homes become like ovens. To combat this Ryan Double Glazing can use specialty glass that helps to reduce solar heat gain and the impact of harsh UV rays which get inside during the warmer months.

Warmer in Winter

Double glazing is commonly referred to as window insulation. The double glazed unit works as a barrier between the inside of your home and the cold winter air outside. Double glazing can significantly reduce the heat loss reduction in your home. This means less energy consumption which means saving you money on heating bills.

Reduced Condensation

Condensation or ‘crying windows’ are common place in New Zealand homes. Condensation on windows can occur when the temperature of the glass is colder than the inside temperature of your home. This causes water vapour from the atmosphere to condense and settle on the surface of your window. Less water on the glass means curtains last longer!

Reduced Noise

Double glazing your existing aluminium windows and doors means noisy neighbours and high traffic areas will be less of a barrier to peaceful living. Standard double glazing alone will help reduce the amount of noise coming through the glass in your joinery. However, with the use of speciality laminate glass the impact of noise can be reduced even more.

Reduced UV Radiation

Carpets have faded over the years? Maybe even your upholstery too? This could be due to the harsh rays known as Ultraviolet (UV) light. UV is a harmful light that not only speeds up the fading of furnishings but can have damaging effects on our skin and eyes too. Double glazing helps reduce the amount UV light getting into your home by reflecting some of the harsh rays off the double glazed units.

Improved Security

Double glazed units are made up of two panes of glass with an air or argon gas space in between. This creates an extra barrier between the inside and outside of your home, making it harder for your windows to break. The use of toughened or laminated glass will help your windows to withstand a misdirected cricket ball or an attempted break-in by undesirables.

Meet New Building Standards

All new homes in New Zealand now need to be built with double glazed windows and doors. By double glazing your existing joinery, you will be bringing your aluminium windows and doors up to current building code standards without the need for permits and builders.

Every Home is Different

When it comes to double glazing, one size does not fit all. Every family and their home have individual needs and outcomes they want to achieve. Because of this, Ryan Double Glazing customises every single order to help achieve the best possible results. You can expect personal service.

Ryan Double Glazing like to keep it simple!

Our aim is to help bring year round comfort to as many homes as we can. To do that we aim to provide information to our customers about retrofit double glazing that is easy to understand.

The benefits of double glazing are well documented. We don't want to baffle you with science, talk about options that are not designed for our local climate or confuse you with labels.

We will provide you with easy choices that are appropriate for your home and what's important to you.

We sell high spec glass units which are made up of high performance LowE (Low Emissivity) glass, argon gas and a thermal spacer. LowE glass has a fine, transparent coating that reflects long wave infrared energy. This coating helps combat heat absorption in summer, heat loss in winter, condensation, UV radiation and glare. LowE can be the best choice for your home.

If you are in an older home in Tauranga, Papamoa or Mt Maunganui or wanting a more affordable option then double glazed units made with standard glass, argon glass and thermal spacers may be your preferred choice.

Argon gas is an inert gas that is not harmful to us or our pets. The argon gas is sealed between the double glazed unit (where there is usually an air gap). As argon is denser than air it acts as a greater barrier to heat loss and heat absorption in the home. Thermal spacers break the thermal bridge from outside to inside of the unit, at the glass edge. This creates a warm edge giving better overall performance. Individually LowE glass, argon gas and thermal spacers have fantastic properties.

If privacy is an issue then tinted glass or obscured / frosted glass may be the way to go. This can be done in some parts of the house and not in others.

You tell us about what is important to you and we will offer you simple double glazing solutions. Easy.
